Kia Motors donates to State Champion baseball team

WEST POINT, GA - On Wednesday, Kia Motors Manufacturing Georgia, Inc. (KMMG) presented a donation to the West Point Parks and Recreation Department’s 16-and-under baseball team who will be traveling to the Regional Tournament in Viera, Fla. after winning the Georgia state championship.

“We are so proud of the accomplishments of this team and wanted to show our full support,” said Randy Jackson, KMMG’s vice president of human resources and administration. “Making it to the Regional is quite an accomplishment and we congratulate the team on a fine season.”

Troup County 911 adds lake buoys for 911 calls

TROUP COUNTY, GA - The 4th of July Celebration on Pyne (pronounced Pine) Road Park near LaGrange is an annual tradition in Troup County. Thousands of boaters take to the waters of West Point Lake to watch the fireworks from the water.  So many boats on the water can be treacherous, though.  “It’s dark and boaters are sometimes anxious to get back to shore after the fireworks and sometimes accidents can happen,” says Suzy Noles, Troup County’s 911 director.

Water safety tips for Independence Day

SOCIAL CIRCLE, GA - As expected, the upcoming Fourth of July holiday weekend is sure to be a busy one on Georgia’s lakes and waterways, according to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Wildlife Resources Division. Conservation Rangers will do their best to ensure the safety of everyone on the water and boaters are strongly encouraged to remain alert and aware at all times. 

So far this year in Georgia, there have been 48 boating incidents resulting in 16 injuries and 7 boating incident-related fatalities.

Boating safety course in West Point

TROUP COUNTY, GA - The US Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 81, in partnership with the US Army Corps of Engineers at West Point Lake, will conduct a personal watercraft and boating safety course at the West Point Project Management Office on July 19 and 21 from 6:30 pm until 9:30 pm. The course will provide information on legal requirements, navigation rules, preventing personal watercraft and boating accidents, and new boating laws.

LAGRANGE, GA - LaGrange will be hosting a celebration for cyclists on July 2nd. The reason behind the fun is the enactment of a bill promoting safety for bicycles on the road. "3 Feet 2 Pass" is a requirement for there to be three feet betweent a passing vehicle and the cyclist.
