Campgrounds closing at Ringer Park

WEST POINT, GA - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced today that Ringer Park, located off US Highway 27 north of LaGrange, will be managed for day use only, effective on January 1, 2012.

Camping will no longer be permitted in the park, other activities such as picnicking, fishing, boat launching and hiking will remain available to the public.

Be careful on West Point Lake over Labor Day

LAGRANGE, GA - The Labor Day holiday weekend signifies the traditional end of the summer season for many visitors at West Point Lake, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reminds all lake users to use caution when in or near the water.


Because of the dry weather, the reservoir level is projected to be some 5 - 6 feet below summer pool during Labor Day Weekend. Boaters should use caution and operate their vessels within the boating channels which are marked by buoys. Boaters are also advised to watch for submerged or partially submerged hazards.

Discuss plans for roads in LaGrange with Georgia DOT

LAGRANGE, GA - The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) will be presenting the Draft FY 2012 - 2015 Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) for public review and comment. 

The Thomaston District Office will assist in sponsoring four Open House meetings where the public can view the Draft FY 12-15 STIP, view maps of  projects in the local area, discuss project with GDOT staff, and formally offer comments.  The meetings are open to the public and all constituents are encouraged and welcome to attend. The LaGrange meeting is scheduled for August 31 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the West Georgia Commons.

Troup County 911 adds lake buoys for 911 calls

TROUP COUNTY, GA - The 4th of July Celebration on Pyne (pronounced Pine) Road Park near LaGrange is an annual tradition in Troup County. Thousands of boaters take to the waters of West Point Lake to watch the fireworks from the water.  So many boats on the water can be treacherous, though.  “It’s dark and boaters are sometimes anxious to get back to shore after the fireworks and sometimes accidents can happen,” says Suzy Noles, Troup County’s 911 director.
