Veterans honored with new driver's license design | Military

COLUMBUS, GA - Department of Driver Services (DDS) unveiled a new design for Veterans Driver Licenses and State Identification Cards to support Georgia’s troops. 

Additional graphics have been added to evoke patriotism and honor those veteran servicemen and women who carry it.

“This is a well-deserved acknowledgement by our state which has the fourth largest number of combat veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan,” said Commissioner Rob Mikell. “Georgia’s veterans deserve all the acknowledgement we can bestow,” he added. 

Mikell revealed the new card design in front of the Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial Statue at Pete Wheeler Georgia War Veteran Memorial Plaza in Atlanta today.  He presented several special guests with their new Veterans Licenses including Commissioner Pete Wheeler, Department of Veterans Service, Holly Springs Police Officer Shane Ladner and several DDS team members.

“I commend these honored guests for their unquestionable commitment to service. They safeguarded this great nation and have also chosen to continue to serve the citizens of Georgia,” Mikell said.

In 2012 approximately 36,000 to 38,000 eligible Georgia veterans requested or renewed a free driver’s license and/or ID card. Many vets have found that it serves a purpose as a convenient identification to use for special retail discounts that many businesses choose to offer the former service members.
