Valley Rescue Mission's Camp JOY now accepting applications

Now in its 40th year of operation, Camp JOY is a 6-week long summer camp for children ages 7 to 11. There will be 3 weeks for girls, and 3 weeks for boys. Every child who enrolls can attend during one week of their choice.

There is no charge to the families for sending children to Camp JOY. Instead, their week at camp is generously underwritten by supporters from throughout the community.

Camp JOY seeks to provide a camping experience that will encourage Christian growth and have a lasting positive impact on the children.

"Give Yourself a Chance" initiative aims to curb underage and binge drinking

April is Alcohol Awareness Month, and local organizations are joining together to launch the "Give Yourself a Chance" initiative aimed to prevent underage and binge drinking in Georgia, especially among youth.

Research shows that 23 percent of Georgia youth have consumed alcohol before the age of 13, while nearly the same percentage of high school students admitted to binge drinking.  These sobering statistics have inspired HEARTS for Families, and the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) to unveil the new campaign.
