Two month investigation leads to big gambling bust

VALLEY, AL - Valley Police finally got to execute a search warrant after two months of investigation, and it paid off big time.

Valley PD and Chambers County Drug Task Force served the warrant on Sunday, Sept. 23 around 6 p.m. on the 4300 block of 20th Avenue in Valley.

They had been tipped off to illegal gambling in the area months ago. 

Officers seized about $4,000 in cash, four handguns, two poker tables with several charis, assorted electronic appliances, and several racks of poker chips and decks of playing cards.

TROUP COUNTY, GA - An officer at the Troup County Jail has been arrested for sneaking marijuana, cell phones, credit cards and other items to inmates.

The Troup County Sheriff’s Office looked into the case for eight months and has charged Officer Angel Vargas, 38, with violating Georgia’s controlled substance act, prohibited possession of inmate contraband and crossing the guard line of the jail with contraband.

TROUP COUNTY, GA - Troup County Sheriff’s Deputies caught two individuals after they made a suspicious stop before a checkpoint.

Officers were set up at Resource Management Dr. and Fuller Rd doing license checks. A Ford Explorer was driving towards the checkpoint when they stopped about 75 yards short. Officers saw a man get out of the SUV on the passenger side and open the rear hatch to get something.
