Georgia Power customers to save at least $100 a year

(WTVM)- If
you are a Georgia Power customer, expect to see a present on your next billing
statement. The Public Service Commission recently approved a rate
reduction.  

The average customer who uses about 1,000 kilowatt hours will see about an $8
price break each month.  The change in price is due to a reduction in cost
to generate electricity. 

"With so much bad news surfacing these days, it is nice to be able to say
your summer electric rates won't be quite as high," says Commission

Car found at West Point Lake; do you recognize this car?

TROUP COUNTY, GA (WTVM)- The Troup County Sheriff's Office is asking the public's help finding the owner
of a car discovered in West Point Lake Thursday.

The submerged car, a black 1993 Nissan 240sx convertible, was found in an
isolated area near a boat ramp at Whitewater Park, in 15 feet of water. It did
not have a license plate, but a vehicle identification number reveals the car
may have originated from the Decatur, GA area.

LaGrange couple killed in I-85 weather-related crash

FAIRBURN, GA (CBS ATLANTA) - Two people died and another was seriously injured after their SUV hydroplaned in rainy weather Sunday night.

The 2003 GMC Envoy was northbound on I-85 near the Fayetteville Road overpass when the SUV left the road and struck a utility pole.

Killed in the crash were the driver, 43-year-old Demond Sterling Calhoun and his wife, 28-year-old Constance Favors Calhoun, both from LaGrange.

Constance's brother, 25-year-old Jacoble Rashead Favors, is stable condition at Grady Memorial Hospital.

Mom charged with assaulting 6-month-old baby

TROUP COUNTY, GA (WTVM)- A mother has been arrested after taking her baby to the West Georgia Medical Center this weekend.

LaGrange police arrived at the hospital Saturday night after learning of a child with serious injuries.

Police believe Christina Mendoza assaulted the six-month-old, causing the injuries. She has been charged with aggravated battery and cruelty to children.
